For the sixth consecutive year, Acino has achieved Level 1 Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) contributor status in South Africa.

A milestone that reflects not only regulatory compliance but a deep-rooted commitment to meaningful transformation. This recognition is not something we take lightly. It represents years of intentional action, sustained momentum, and a clear strategy built around empowerment, equity, and economic participation.

At Acino, transformation is not a checkbox, it is embedded in our culture and business practices. Our Level 1 status is the result of targeted efforts across multiple dimensions:

  • Preferential procurement that supports Black-owned and empowered suppliers.
  • Enterprise and supplier development investments that nurture inclusive growth.
  • Community upliftment through job creation and practical opportunities, including the impactful Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative.

Over the past years, Acino has actively contributed to economic inclusion by hiring, training, and uplifting individuals from historically disadvantaged backgrounds.

According to John Norman, Head of Region Africa, this is a testament of our transformation and diversity strategy, both within and beyond our organisation.

To promote the social and economic development of communities and address the longstanding exclusion of the previously disadvantaged majority from the mainstream economy, we have prioritized preferential procurement and investments in supplier and enterprise development. Moreover, our ongoing efforts to support the community are evident in our continued investment in initiatives such as Youth Employment Services (YES) that help young people secure work experience and opportunities.

“Over the years, Acino South Africa has demonstrated its dedication to building a more inclusive society by contributing to the YES initiative for 232 individuals and continuing employment to numerous individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, Furthermore, we have invested in a considerable number of learnerships to previously disadvantaged individuals to empower future generations of workers (550 between 2019-2025),” says Trevor Reddy, Head of Market Access, Pricing, Tenders & B-BBEE.

Every opportunity created is a step forward in reshaping the transformation landscape in South Africa.

Because true transformation is not an annual achievement. It is a mindset. A movement. A responsibility.
