Acino attains Level 1 B-BBEE status in South Africa for the second year in a row
We are proud to announce that Acino has attained Level 1 B-BBEE status in South Africa for the second year in a row.
The Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment Act (“B-BBEE”) is an important legislation critical to economic and business transformation in South Africa. Last year Acino became the first and only multinational pharmaceutical company to achieve Level 1 B-BBEE status.
“Acino’s philosophy of diversity resonates with South Africa’s philosophy of equal opportunity, and we are extremely proud to have attained Level 1 B-BBEE again. This demonstrates our dedication and commitment to the South African healthcare industry, where we strive to make a meaningful difference to patients, healthcare practitioners and employees for many years to come,” says John Norman, General Manager, Acino Healthcare and Regional Director for English-Speaking Africa.
Moreover, this significant achievement strengthens Acino’s position in the public and private healthcare sector in South Africa.
As part of our B-BBEE efforts, we have focused on Preferential Procurement, investment in Enterprise and Supplier Development through initiatives aimed at improving the socioeconomic development of communities, redressing the exclusion of Black majority’s participation in mainstream economy.
Last year we provided employment to 138 individuals from the previously disadvantaged sector, and invested in 78 learnerships with the view to educating and upskilling the future workforce.
At Acino we strive to ensure compliance with local and organisational laws in the communities where we operate. Today’s dynamic and competitive business environment requires that our integrity and compliance with laws be unwavering, proactive and strategic as regulations continue to evolve.
