Acino in Africa
Our roots in Africa date back to 1992. In 2017, Acino acquired Litha Healthcare, significantly strengthening its presence in Southern Africa and establishing a strong foothold in Central East Africa and Mauritius. Since then, Acino has continued to expand its portfolio and broaden its offering in key therapeutic areas and markets.
In 2020, we accelerated our growth with the acquisition of Takeda’s primary care portfolio. This was followed by the acquisition of six prescription medicines from Aspen in 2022, which further demonstrated our commitment to South Africa and the region. In 2023, we secured an exclusive agreement to market and sell selected Janssen products. The following year, Ipsen transferred local responsibility for SOMATULINE® to Acino, thereby reinforcing our specialty care portfolio. We also successfully launched PARAGENGEN® IV and ORTACTA® and signed a licensing and supply agreement with Allecra Therapeutics for its novel antibiotic EXBLIFEP®.
